Sons & Daughters

hi!

I’m AlisaMarie. I fell in love with photography as a child after watching a Reading Rainbow episode (that is going to age me a bit) but I never imagined I could actually make a living taking photographs. It is honestly a dream come true.

I started Sons & Daughters photography in 2010. It was just a passion project for a long time. And over the years I took breaks from it- moved multiple times, had my kids, became a doula, opened a yoga studio and through it all, I always keep coming back to photography.

There is something so incredible about taking photos and knowing they will be passed down for generations- long after we’re gone. You know the photos you have of your grandparents and great grandparents and how you feel when you hold those photos. They are timeless, they last forever, they bring us back- we travel through time with an image. Its magic.

I have tried to narrow down my niche over the years but I can’t, so I won’t. I love LOVE in all it’s forms- a growing family, the birth of a child, siblings meeting for the first time, the bond between a mother and her unborn baby, the connection between soul mates. I want to capture it all! So that is what I do.

I’ve been in this line of work for long enough that I have seen a lot of trends come and go- and some I am happy to get on the bandwagon for (blurry, out of focus photos, yes please. Thank god we aren’t tossing all the “imperfect” photos anymore) and there are some that I am happy to never do again (posed babies in baskets. It’s an art form, don’t me get wrong. I am just not the girl for it!)

But through the trends, this will never change:

Whether we’re playing in the mountains or hanging out in your living room, I want to capture YOU- the most authentic, honest, raw version of you, right now.
I do want to take pretty pictures, but more importantly, I want you to FEEL something when you see your photos.
I want you to hear the giggling of your toddler, feel the embrace of your lover, smell that sweet newborn scent, remember what it feels like to grow a human… its about way more than just a photoshoot. It’s about making memories and documenting them for the generations long after we’re gone.
